GUNOTSAV 2.0 | SQAAF 2026–27: A New Framework for School Quality

GUNOTSAV 2.0 | SQAAF 2026–27: A New Framework for School Quality

Gujarat’s school education system is moving towards a more structured, transparent and quality-focused approach with the implementation of Gunotsav 2.0 – School Quality Assessment and Assurance Framework (SQAAF).

From the academic year 2026–27, the SQAAF framework will cover Government, Grant-in-Aid and Self-Financed schools across the Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary stages.

🔹 What is SQAAF?

SQAAF stands for School Quality Assessment and Assurance Framework. It provides a systematic framework to assess different aspects of school quality and encourages schools to identify their strengths, understand areas requiring improvement and work towards continuous development.

The framework is divided into two major components:

1. SQAAF Administrative – focusing mainly on school management, infrastructure, facilities and administrative aspects.

2. SQAAF Academic – focusing mainly on teaching-learning, assessment and academic development.

🔹 Six Major Domains

SQAAF 2026–27 covers six major domains:

  1. Teaching & Learning
  2. Assessment
  3. School Management
  4. Activities for Holistic Development
  5. School Resources
  6. School Hostel

Together, these domains contain 211 criteria, with a maximum of 633 marks and a total weighting of 100%.

🔹 Self-Assessment: The First Step

One of the important features of the new process is School Self-Assessment.

Schools first assess themselves against the prescribed SQAAF criteria and upload the required information on the Gunotsav 2.0 portal. After this, GSQAC prepares provisional results. Verification is then carried out in up to 33% of the self-assessed schools, followed by preparation of final results and public disclosure of school accreditation result....

Self-assessment is not merely a scoring exercise. It is an opportunity for schools to examine their own practices honestly and identify areas for meaningful improvement.

🔹 Why Does SQAAF Matter?

The framework goes beyond marks. It looks at the overall quality of the school environment, including classroom arrangements, assessment practices, school management, safety, resources, technology, student well-being and holistic development.

It also aligns with the quality-assurance vision of NEP 2020, including greater autonomy, accountability and transparency in school education.

🎯 The Real Goal

The ultimate purpose of SQAAF is not simply to classify schools.

It is about creating a culture where every school continuously asks:

Where are we today?
What can we improve?
What evidence supports our progress?
How can we provide better learning experiences for every child?

SQAAF 2026–27 is therefore not just an assessment framework — it is a roadmap for continuous school improvement and quality education.
